Species  represented on LBWP membership cards

Every year, a  different local  species of animals or plants is  represented on membership cards.

2010 - Red-bellied Turtle
(Pseudemys rubriventris).

Endangered in Pennsylvania, it  is doing  well  in the Lawrence Brook and a common sight to canoeists. It  is usually  difficult to  approach them, as they slide  quickly into the waters. However with  patience  and quietness you can be lucky.

2009 -  Great  egret
 (Ardea alba)

This  majestic  heron was standing near Church  lane, apparently  not  bothered  by the presence of fishermen on the  bridge. The yellow noodle-looking vegetation is not dead; it  is  dodder, a non- chlorophyllian parasitic vine,  currently sucking  sap from aquatic vegetation.
